There can be if you want. Takes only a second to set one up in KDE/Gnome

Actually it is not a surprise, and I will explain why. Unix is faster than
MS-Windows. And since Merge uses native Unix filesystem support and other
Unix internals to support the running on MS-Windows, it will take advantage
of the inherent speed of Unix!

That is because Merge uses Unix's networking instead of MS-Windows. So that
will be faster also

Yep, we run all kinds of things under Merge, and have for many years.
Have never found anything that will not run.
