[twuug] samba ..not being friendly

On my home system I  am trying to get samba to run.. this is a pre 2.0 
version.. uses smbrun.  When I issue the command nmbd -D is the listing 
after I do a ps ax...  but I can not find smbd -D.  when I issued the 
smbclient -L <servername> -N I get a message that the session failed and 
that the server software is being unfreindly

any ideas on this one?
