I knew a guy who tried to get me to go into a job maintaining that software
for some company who sold it to various medical centers.
About a year later, despite a very high salary, he quit. It had driven him
nuts. They sometimes did multiple releases per week to keep up with
regulations in this and the insurance side of related products.
A lot of custom business solutions are like this, requring continuous
updates to keep up with changes.
Doing this kind of thing and keeping it reliable (if you even can) must be
tremendously frustrating.
Seems to be addressing the problem from the wrong end too.
