If you know me you would know I am like Jeff in his belief in the ideals our country was founded on, and you obviously mistook my words. I meant to do things for the common good rather then to be self centered morons. But maybe in your mind it is one and the same. No where in my comments did I say that we should bow down to the state and serve it with every ounce of us and be grateful for it. Btw just for clarification I am a Constitutionist, and believe deeply in our founding fathers ideals.

My point was that these scientist were worth something and Jeff discounted that for his own selfish concerns about TAX dollars is why I commented. And Yes no matter what you believe those scientist were doing something selfless and for the greater good of man-kind. We should be incredibly proud of such individuals. These were the cream of the crop, as are all we sent and send to space. These individuals are not the normal joe blow, and deserve much respect. I will be happy to continue to pay taxes if they are going to excellent intelligent programs like NASA. As for the rest of the social vile programs like welfare that is a completly other subject.

Not all. But alot of things that big bro is taking care off would be so much better int he private sector where they belong.

You so see the greater view. :)
Let us also keep in mind that only 30% of all colonized citizens at the time of seperation from the tyranical rule of England demanded seperation and freedom. The rest of the 70% of morons in this country would have been more then glad to continue to be bent over. This has not changed. There is still 70% of people that dont see the greater view and dont see the problems our own country has. Even with its problems this country is the greatest nation that has ever been formed on this planet. We strive and survive only on the freedom we give to personal thought express and speech. Only in free societies do you find such beauty. For a good example. Prior to the time of the Greeks there was a total lack of freedom. Suddeningly this new society was formed, Free thought and expression encouraged, and look what florished out of that. Art, Music, Science, the first conscepts of freedom. It utimatley failed in the Greeks case but that was due to their democracy and never welding political correctness. Our for-fathers set out on a quest to do something beyond themselves, a truly selfless act. They formed to CREATE a greater nation, a greater way of life, the greatest gift to man, FREEDOM. They did this knowing that they would surely hang if they failed. They did this not for themselves but for the greater good. There are still men like that today. Those scientist were no less serving the greater good. They did what they did for people like James and people like me and the rest of us. They know their ventures may not change things today but that their discoveries would possible change the way we view and know things around us. Truly a beautiful thing if you ask me.
Until the 1930's our only form of government income was a excise tax that had been around since our country was formed. Until the 1930's when all the alphabet structure took place then came income tax and the billion other taxes. I am not saying that taxes are a good thing, however they provide alot of good and the 14% that goes to the DOD is a wonderful and one of the few ideals this country was founded on. Security for its people. I will coninute to pay my taxes unhappily but proudly knowing they are going to great places like DOD and NASA. Without NASA there would not even a quater of the advances in science. Our money is not always well spent but sometimes it is spent in the places it should be.
