From TWUUG

  • Mark Davis:
    • Gave a presentation on the search for Linux-based medical carts and demoed a unit from Jaco which includes a hydraulic lift and hot-swap battery system.
    • Gave a presentation on roaming WiFi- including selection of an antenna, factors that seem to matter for range, and using the great Linux program called wavemon. Wavemon is an ncurses WiFi monitor program with lots of useful features for visualizing and testing a WiFi network.
  • Tim Kramer gave a presentation on the free/open-source traccar which is a Java-based GPS tracking platform that works with Linux servers and clients for Android Linux and iOS. Unlike other "solutions", traccar doesn't expose your data to any third party, and the web-based front-end uses Open Street Map for rendering.
  • Open discussion about Microsoft's recent news on integrating a Bash shell into MS-Windows and another strange initiative with Ubuntu.
