Discs

From TWUUG

One of the benefits of attending TWUUG meetings is to obtain physical media (discs) for a variety of Free Open Source Software (FOSS). These are discs that are created by the group for the community and offered for a small donation to pay for the materials.

Some members do not have access to high-speed Internet connections for downloading ever-increasingly-large iso images of useful software. Others are new to FOSS/Linux/BSD and don't know how to burn discs or where to find them.

We typically offer several Linux distributions at meetings. For example: Mandriva, Fedora, SuSe, Knoppix, KUbuntu, Xandros, Slackware, etc. We have also offered non-Linux discs such as: OpenCD, OpenMusic, Companion, Ultimate Boot CD, Games, OpenOffice collection, BSD, etc.

The discs made by/for the group are:

  1. Low cost
  2. Current
  3. Made from verified images
  4. Burned on quality media
  5. Labeled professionally, in color
  6. Packaged attractively

Selection and quantity are usually limited to prevent waste which costs the group additional money.
