Verizon

DSL is Verizon's flagship ISP product. They use DSL modems and the PPPOE protocol. PPPOE is supported on modern Linux distributions, but it is sometimes easier to use a home router.
Verizon FIOS is the next-generation Internet service from Verizon, already available in the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach. This service distinguishes itself with fiber optic lines directly to the customer's home, resulting in bandwidth up to 30 mbps down/ 5 mbps up. In other markets, but not in Hampton Roads (yet), Verizon is competing directly with cable TV companies with their FIOS TV service, which is delivered using the same FTTP (Fiber To The Premises) network as their Internet service.
